Spring Loaded: How the Rogue Pack Is Turning Research Into Better Running

Inside the Rogue Pack, we do things a little differently.

We don’t just throw random sessions at athletes and hope something sticks.

We look at the research, pull out what actually matters, and turn it into practical training that everyday runners and triathletes can use.

That is exactly where the new Spring Loaded Challenge comes from.

As we move into spring, Rogue Pack members are starting a new six-week challenge built around one simple idea:

better ground contact = better running efficiency.

Or, as we’ve been saying inside the Pack:

Same engine. Better suspension.

Why Spring Loaded?

Most runners think improvement only comes from doing more.

More miles.More intervals.More threshold.More suffering uploaded to Strava for public validation.

And yes, fitness matters.

But running performance is not just about the engine. It is also about how efficiently you use that engine.

Every time your foot hits the ground, your body has a job to do. It has to absorb force, control it, and return it quickly enough to keep you moving well.

Do that badly and you leak energy.

Do it well and you become a more efficient runner.

That is the idea behind Spring Loaded.

Pulled from the Rogue Vault

The challenge comes from a research paper inside our Rogue Vault looking at daily hopping and running economy in amateur runners. The study explored whether a simple plyometric intervention could improve how efficiently runners move at set speeds.

We have taken that paper, pulled it apart, stripped away the academic fog, and turned it into something usable for the Pack.

Not a lecture.

Not a dusty PDF nobody reads.

A proper training challenge with:

  • a full explainer video

  • a Rogue Library PDF

  • coached guidance

  • TrainingPeaks sessions for coached athletes

  • technique standards

  • safety notes

  • a completion badge

Because that is the point of the Rogue Vault.

Research should not just sit in a folder looking clever.

It should become better training.

What members are working on

I’m not going to give the whole thing away here — that’s for Pack members.

But the focus is lower-leg stiffness, cleaner contacts, better rhythm, and improving how runners use the ground.

The key cue inside the challenge is:

Quiet feet. Fast floor. Tall body.

The Rogue Pack approach

Spring Loaded is a good example of what the Rogue Pack is built for.

Members are not just getting generic training noise.

They are getting access to a system:

The Rogue Vault gives us the research. The Rogue Library turns that research into practical resources.TrainingPeaks puts the work into the week. The Pack creates accountability.

That is how you turn information into action.

And action is where the adaptation happens.

The standard

The Spring Loaded Challenge is not about being reckless.

It is not about doing more for the sake of doing more.

It is about being consistent, controlled, and honest with how your body responds.

That is the Pack standard.

Do the work. Do it properly.Earn the badge.

Want inside?

The full Spring Loaded PDF and explainer video are available inside the Rogue Library for Rogue Pack members.

Coached athletes will also see the sessions appear directly in TrainingPeaks.

This is the kind of thing we are building every month inside the Pack:

research-backed training, practical resources, challenge-based accountability, and a bit of bite.

No fluff.

No magic.

No nonsense.

Just better training.
